Full course description
Course opens 10/12/20, Ends October 30, 2020.
Explore the realm of floral design teaching in this online, immersive, floristry education short course. Your teachers are Hitomi Gilliam, AIFD, Vancouver, BC; Dr. Jim DelPrince, AIFD, PFCI, AAF, MSU Coastal R&E Center and Mandy Sartain, MSU Extension Program Associate. Many professional florists are delving into teaching streams through online seminars, socially distanced studios and preparing for the return of face-to-face workshops. Teachers must always be a step ahead of the learner, understanding not only the "how to" of floral design but communicate the "why". Our content will include conveying design principles and postharvest care information to florists and consumers, teaching virtual hands-on projects, and environmental insights. Our lectures and demonstrations will be videotaped so if you cannot view the live sessions, you will be able to learn all course content before the course closes. Topics include Teaching Transparent Design, Event Installation – Suspended Design, Teaching Design Principles and Elements, Understanding and Teaching Post-Harvest Science, Microplastics in the Ocean, and a Maintaining Professional Fees discussion. This course builds upon evaluation information from the MSU Coastal February 2020 conference. No refunds.
